Ex-Democrat Tulsi Gabbard endorses Donald Trump, joins his transition team
Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman and military veteran who ran as a Democratic candidate for the presidency in 2020 has endorsed Donald Trump in the US presidential election.
Gabbard appeared alongside Trump to commemorate US service personnel killed in an attack in Afghanistan three years prior, criticizing the chaotic withdrawal that took place under the Biden administration when thirteen US service members and more than 100 Afghans were killed during the suicide bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. Shortly after the US withdrawal from the country, the Taliban returned to power.
Appearing at Monday’s event in Michigan, Gabbard pointed out that she’s appealing to Democrats, Republicans and independents alike to pick Trump at the ballot box in November, stating it was a matter of “saving our country and serving the people”.
Together with Robert F Kennedy Jr, another former lifelong Democrat and independent nominee in the 2024 presidential election, Gabbard joined the Trump transition team that could shape his future administration. The pair will serve as honorary co-chairs of a body that will help Trump choose policies and personnel if he wins the presidential election in November.
